Mature Tree Care and Removal in Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Out of an equipment yard on Westgate Road in northwest Raleigh, Timberman Tree Service runs its crane and crews about 19 miles to Chapel Hill. We are a family-owned company, in tree work since 2009, and our owners bring 40+ years of experience to jobs as far west as Orange County.
The job we are best equipped for is the big tree that cannot simply be dropped. Census estimates put about 35 percent of homes here in the years before 1980, and trees beside those houses have had more than four decades to grow. Taking one down means guarding everything around it: the roof, the garden beds, the driveway and whatever is parked on it.
Most of the town lies in Orange County, with a small piece in Durham County, between Carrboro on the west and Durham to the northeast. Coker Hills and Highland Woods went up on wooded, rolling ground from the 1950s through the 1970s, and Lake Forest grew around its lake over the same years. Newer Southern Village, opened in 1994, and Meadowmont, built from 1999, set homes on smaller lots.

Local Tree Service Expertise in Chapel Hill
Compared with the newer Wake County suburbs, this town has older homes on hilly lots and tight new urbanist streets, and both change how a removal gets planned.
Rolling, Wooded Mid-Century Lots
Coker Hills was built on wooded, rolling ground with many homes from the 1960s and 1970s, and Highland Woods dates from 1956 to 1965. On a slope, a dropped section can slide or roll toward a house or a planted bed. The crane sets wood down instead. Carlos checks the grade and where the crane can sit before quoting.
Oaks in Their Mature Years
After a June 2015 storm dropped big oaks on East Franklin Street and South Columbia Street, the town arborist told ABC11 that the town has a lot of trees in their mature years. A large old tree near your house deserves a look before storm season. Sometimes selective pruning is enough to keep it, and sometimes removal is the safer call.
Smaller Lots in Southern Village and Meadowmont
Southern Village opened in 1994 and Meadowmont followed in 1999, both with smaller lots, and Meadowmont with narrow streets. Parked cars and close neighbors mean the job has to stay contained, and Southern Village's HOA runs its own Architectural Review Board, so check with it first. Our crew wears headsets and hard hats and puts signage out, and customers have written in reviews that they could not tell a tree had been there.
Older Houses and a Town Tree Ordinance
About 35 percent of Chapel Hill homes were built before 1980. Before a removal near one of those older homes, Carlos looks at what the tree has grown over, from the roofline to the driveway. The town also keeps its own tree protection ordinance, and we check what applies to your lot before work is scheduled, so there are no surprises on the day of the job.
Why Chapel Hill Homeowners Choose Timberman Tree Service
Your Garden Stays Intact
On a sloped Coker Hills lot or a tight Southern Village yard, the crane carries wood over flower beds and cars and sets it where we planned. Your plantings are part of the job plan from the first walkthrough.
Under Half an Hour Away
From our Westgate Road yard in northwest Raleigh, the crew covers about 19 miles to reach you. The crane and chippers we own ride along, so no job waits on a rental.
Repairs Come Before Payment
If anything around the tree is damaged, from a walkway on a sloped lot to a garden border, we fix it before we accept payment. Proof of workers' comp and liability insurance arrives in your introduction letter, ahead of the visit.
Big Trees Are Our Work
Our favorite jobs are big, old trees in tight spots beside houses, where the crane does what climbing cannot. A Highland Woods or Coker Hills lot with that kind of tree is a job we want.
