Why Brush Piles Become a Bigger Problem Than They Look
Brush piles start small: a few limbs after a windy week, or a fallen branch dragged to the back fence. Then another season adds to it. The pile becomes a shelter for snakes and rodents, and a mat that kills the grass underneath.
It also will not fit the curb. City of Raleigh collection takes limbs tied in bundles no longer than 5 feet and no heavier than 50 pounds, five bundles at a time. A real pile could take months of pickups. Renting a chipper means running a machine built to pull branches in fast, which is exactly what makes it dangerous.
Wood Chipping in Raleigh: What the Service Includes
Wood chipping turns branches and brush into wood chips right on your property, shrinking a pile to a fraction of its size in a single visit. Timberman runs two chippers, and chipping is part of every tree removal and trimming job we do.
The main decision on your end is simple: keep the chips, or send them away.
01
How the Chipping Works
The crew drags limbs from the pile to the chipper and feeds them in, butt end first. Spinning knives inside the machine cut the wood, and the chips blow out of the chute into a dump truck, or onto a pile where you want them. Everyone on the crew works in hard hats and stays in contact by headset.
02
Keep the Chips or Haul Them Away
Fresh wood chips make a useful mulch for paths, natural areas and the ground around trees. Keep them a few inches back from trunks and away from the house. If you want them, we blow them into a pile where you choose.
03
Chipping Versus Hauling Whole Brush
Loose brush is mostly air. Loaded whole, a single pile can fill a dump truck, while the same pile chipped takes up a small part of the bed. That is why chipping before hauling makes sense on most brush jobs. It means fewer trips, less time with trucks in your driveway, and the option to keep a useful material instead of paying to haul it off.

What We Chip and What We Do Not
We chip limbs, brush, small trees and branches from yard work and storms. Leaves, old mulch and loose yard waste are better handled by our yard debris removal service. Once the pile is gone, the crew rakes and blows the area clean, so the grass underneath can start to come back. You walk it with us, and we do not accept payment until after you have verified our work and you are satisfied. For most homeowners, wood chipping in Raleigh is the quickest way to reclaim a corner of the yard that has been off-limits for months, and the chips can go straight back into the garden.

How Much Does Wood Chipping Cost in Raleigh?
Wood chipping is priced by the job, once we see or hear about the pile. The main variables are the volume of brush, the thickness of the largest limbs, how far the crew has to drag material to the chipper, and whether the chips are hauled away or left on site.
Logs too large to chip need to be cut and loaded instead, which your estimate accounts for, so there are no surprises on the day.
The estimate is free. Chipping is already included in the price of every Timberman tree removal and trimming job, so you only see a separate wood chipping price when you book it on its own. We do not accept payment until after you have verified the finished job and you are satisfied.
